Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Yesterday we posted on what you can expect to find at the Theory sample sale at Chelsea Market, and today, we swung by Clothingline. Rather surprisingly, the scene itself was downright civilized and very well-organized, which was a pleasant change from the usual crowds. The space is divided into sections for Theory, Theyskens' Theory, and Theory 38, the brand's workout line. All of the racks are arranged by size and color-coordinated.
Pricing is the same as Chelsea Market: blazers are marked at $139, with the pants at $89, blouses at $69, and basic tees only $29. Dresses, which were largely on the casual and colorful side, cost $99. Skirts and shorts are $59, in a rainbow of hues from black to bright yellow. (You can also score a pair of seersucker shorts for the summer if you are so inclined.) Leather/suede will set you back $299.
As for Theyskens' Theory, blazers cost $249, and we fell in love with the one that resembles a wearable watercolor. If that's too brash for your tastes, though, there are numerous tweed sets (skirts at $99) befitting of someone who's more of a Kate Middleton. Other skirts and denim jackets will run you $159. There are several work-appropriate dresses available, at $159, as well as blouses for $79. The prices hit their high point at $399 for leather, suede, or sequined items, of which the sequins are the most abundant.
There was a limited selection of the Theory 38 active wear line, with prices ranging from $29 to $99. Specifically, if you've been on the hunt for lime green running shorts and matching sports bra, or gray pajama pants, look no further.
There' s a specific section designated for shoes ($79 for Theory shoes and $129 for Theyskens' Theory). A limited selection of bags are hanging off the wall when you first enter, all $159. Finally, there is a small selection of menswear for sale, although the choices are restricted to two racks of button downs, and basic shirts and sweaters. If you want more of that, stop by the brand's men's sale at the company store (details all here).—Jessica Wisniewski
