While its longtime Fifth Avenue mansion undergoes a renovation, Cartier will temporarily relocate to the base of the General Motors Building—neighboring one of the street's largest tourist attractions, Apple. Crain's notes that the location, which has never previously been home to a retail store, recently housed a studio used by The Early Show.
The Shophound adds that "even with immediate neighbors like The Plaza Hotel, both Bergdorf Goodman stores and, of course, housemates F.A.O. Schwarz and Apple, it's hard to say that the GM Building is a better location than Cartier's home since 1917...but you have to admit that it is one of the best retail locations in the city that has not yet held an actual store." The timeframe of the switcheroo is still unknown.
