Smaller Sizes, Killer Designers, Sweet Prices at the Otte Sale

New, 10 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Otte's sample sale kicked off this morning at the retailer's West 24th Street headquarters and we are so glad we stopped by. Apparel is 50% off sale prices (translation: you can snag a $2,300 fringed Balmain jacket for $574) and shoes are all under $100. Denim, coats, skirts, trousers, tights, hats, contemporary brands, oh my!

A few warnings before we dive in: there is not a ton of clothing, and sizing errs on the smaller side. Truth be told, there are about four racks of clothes and we didn't spot anything over a size six (though denim was available up to size 31). Even if you aren't a small size, it might be worth the trek for $5 Hue tights and the ridiculously well-priced shoes. After the jump, a full rundown on what you'll find if you run to this sale right now.

Despite the not-enormous selection, what is available is good. Most styles are the only one of their kind present, so if you see something you love you might want to pick it up before some other gal does.

All categories of clothing are present at the sale and much of the merchandise looks to be fall/winter stock, with a fair amount of spring/summer-appropriate pieces mixed in. A full rack of blouses are primarily of the drapey/silky variety, with lots of options from J Brand and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Trousers from Acne were going for $85, while a leather-trimmed Rag & Bone style was priced at $125.

Skirts and shorts round out the rack of bottoms with mostly only-one-of-their-kind styles. An embroidered Opening Ceremony miniskirt was $103. Outerwear and blazers had their own rack and there were some gems to be found. A good amount of Acne, Balmain, and Helmut Lang is available, and we also spied a $243 Smythe blazer, as well as an oxblood Elizabeth & James blazer for $99.

The Otte signature line has its own rack—expect to find silk pieces like $30 tank tops and $60 dresses. Bins on the floor have denim, arranged by size. Rag & Bone, J Brand, and Citizen of Humanity were among the brands spotted.

If you don't find anything on the racks, you'll likely leave with a pair of shoes. Priced from $40 to $90 there is really no reason to hold back in this department. Wedge boots from Loeffler Randall were the most expensive items available at $90. For $80 you have a choice of booties from Rachel Comey, 3.1 Phillip Lim or Acne. At the $60 mark, pumps from Loeffler Randall and flats by Repetto were available. And for just forty bucks you can snag Rachel Comey loafers, Jean-Michel Cazabat loafer pumps, and more.

With such stellar prices and relatively limited inventory, we would encourage any size 0—6 girls who dig Otte's contemporary edit to stop by this sale sooner than later.
