Luxe fitness club Equinox has signed on for a monster West 42nd Street location. The 30,000 square foot club is the first tenant confirmed for a pair of glass cubes going up at 120 W 42nd Street, just east of Times Square. The massive gym remarkably takes up less than half of the space available at the new development. Whole Foods is reportedly in talks for space within the cubes as well.
Gaining a fashionable lifestyle tenant like Equinox will help develop the emerging retail corridor of West 42nd Street, effectively linking Times Square and Fifth Avenue. You know, the two priciest-per-square-foot Manhattan shopping districts. Joining the effort is H&M, which will open a large space at 4 Times Square, pulling Times Square shopping east by a few significant paces.
