When bakery chain Hot & Crusty vacated their space at Broadway between 104th and 105th Streets, four businesses applied for the lease: a hot dog joint, a liquor store, a pizzeria, and Brandy Melville. Those looking for a slice—or a drink or a dog—are out of luck because the fast fashion retailer won this round.
The Upper West Side location will be the Italian-based retailer's second in the city—the first is in Soho—if the community board votes in favor of the shop on April 3rd. While some board members worry about the viability of a clothing store in the neighborhood, the health and human services committee is in favor of the shop, reasoning that, "it's better than a liquor store." If the store is approved, it will enter a ten year lease beginning in July.
