Herald Center, the ten-story glass skyscraper that Daffy's once anchored, is looking for a new tenant. Renovations to the tower are in the works, which include a brightened exterior and a space reconfiguration that will allow for three floors of contiguous retail space.
However, the real estate firm in control of the building doesn't want another discounter in the space, a source told WWD: "JEMB [Real Estate] is looking for a fashion retailer, not Nordstrom Rack or Loehmann's. They're looking for a full-priced retailer. They would try to make a play for Topshop."
It's hard to imagine a retailer like Topshop taking to the intersection of 34th and Broadway in it's current state, as the neighboring stores don't exactly echo forward-fashion. However, with the news of a mega-Urban Outfitters on it's way to Herald Square, perhaps there is a wave of change coming to the area.
