Cynthia Rowley Opens a Dreamy, Candy-Filled Wonderland

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

A little over a week ago, Cynthia Rowley opened the doors to a new Upper East Side boutique: a four-story townhouse on 78th Street and Madison Avenue boasting its own whimsical, gated courtyard entrance. Once you're past that, you'll see the designer's ready-to-wear and accessories located on the first floor. On the second floor, you'll find CuRious, an "Alice in Wonderland meets Willy Wonka"-type environment full of custom piñatas, candy centerpieces, edible place settings, and other whimsical party decor. Oh, and there's black licorice cotton candy, too.

The next two floors are the appointment-only home of ExhibitionA, Rowley and husband Bill Powers' online art marketplace. However, if it's more candy that you're after, there's another CuRious shop in the works: This morning, WWD reporterd that there are plans to open a West Village boutique at 396 Bleecker Street. Details are still sparse, and it's uncertain at this time how the new shop will affect the current location at 376 Bleecker Street.
