New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Rory Satran is the content director for Opening Ceremony, and the editor-in-chief of the retailer's new OC Annual magazine. A native of Berkeley, California, Rory now resides in NYC—and when she needs new geodes and crystals, she heads uptown to Astro Gallery of Gems, one of her favorite Manhattan stores.
There was a place in my hometown called Graceful Touch which had things like dreamcatchers and dangly amethyst earrings. As a first grader, I would spend my entire allowance there on totally useless things. The Astro Gallery of Gems is the grownup version of Graceful Touch—an excellent place to buy gems and rocks and things. I first heard about this spot from one of my favorite grunge-era stylists. During a shoot at her loft in midtown I was admiring all of her enormous geodes, which she told me she bought at Astro. I was pretty envious of her whole setup: Picture a middle aged babe drinking green juice from Pure Food and Wine amidst all this vintage Prouvé and Perriand furniture. I would have taken her advice on what kind of trash bags to buy.
