We passed by the Alexis Bittar sample sale preview yesterday afternoon to scope out what goodies would be available for purchase when the sale opens today. Although only a small crowd gathered outside while waiting for the preview to start, things got sort of intense once inside.
The sale is being held at a super small framing gallery on West 20th Street in Chelsea, and the tight quarters forced shoppers on top of one another. We nearly tripped over one lady who was crouched over her tray as she sifted through her findings.
Jewelry is marked down up to 70% off retail prices. The most expensive piece we spotted was $299 but most of what we saw didn't cost more than $199. Aside from two small tables of rings ( $5) and bracelets and other rings ($19 and $29), the prices range from $49 to $299, and everything's broken down on price lists affixed to the wall.
There's a pair of signature turquoise and gold earrings for $199, an amazing tribal necklace for $159, and a lucite cuff with a gold and crystal snake for $99. We also found lucite chokers in quite a few colors for $99, but shoppers seemed to be gravitating toward the clear one.
There are lots of earrings that mostly range between $79 and $159, and all sorts of bracelets, from $49 for a simple bangle up to $199 for a detailed cuff. There are rings as well, and the few we picked up ranged from $49 to $99.
Certain jewelry will be restocked, but it's unlikely that there are more of the special pieces, besides for what's already out. If yesterday's crowd is any indication for what today will bring, hopefully you're on line by now. The sale runs from 8:30am to 7pm, today through Saturday. See the gallery above for photos.
