The much-anticipated Stella McCartney friends and family sale started at noon today with a surprisingly short line considering this is the first time it's been officially open to the public. The sale is divided into two rooms: the main room housed ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, and the room to the right had lingerie, jeans, chunky sweaters, and Stella McCartney for Adidas.

While we saw some shoes from this year, the ready-to-wear is primarily from seasons past. The discounts are labeled by section and are a little confusing, so pay close attention to the signs. Signs read that RTW prices ending in 5 are 80% off and prices ending in 9 are 50% off. (One sales person explained that the prices ending in 9 reflected a previous discounted price, so the sample sale price was an extra 50% off).

The same discount method applies to the shoes, where we found wood platform boots and leucite sole sandals for around $200, cheaper than the department store sales going on at the moment. Most shoes are only available in one or two sizes, depending on the style.

The best deals are on Stella McCartney for Adidas merchandise, which is 70% off retail price. Bins of workout gear including pants, tanks, sports bras, wetsuits, swimsuits, and tennis skirts are all well below $100. We also spotted a rack of white ski jackets and matching ski pants, a few ombre windbreakers, bright yellow rain coats and silver puffer anoraks.

Onto the ready-to-wear, tuxedo blazers with cobalt blue satin lapels are around $370, while spring trench coats are under $200. A navy embellished crepe dress is $470 and perfect for the holidays. Other dresses include white embroidered eyelet summer styles, black shift dresses, a nude quilted strapless style, and a black long sleeve dress with black and white printed front panel.

Most of the outerwear is for spring, but we did spot an amazing black and white coat with metallic accents deeply discounted (but still expensive) at around $700. It looked like most of the small sizes were picked over, but we did come across a small size every once in a while.

Lingerie is divided by size in bins and marked 70% off, making bras well under $100. Jeans are stacked on shelves and include signature high-waisted wide leg styles, white waxed straight leg styles, and a few black skinny jeans. There is a small shared dressing room in the corner, but you aren't allowed to try on lingerie and it's very crowded with only a few mirrors.

We didn't see any bags, but accessories are 80% off and include belts, a small selection of jewelry, and a gift set of days of the week underwear for about $40. We weren't allowed to take photos at the sale, but browse the photo gallery for images of some of the items we saw at the sale. The sale runs until 7pm tonight, and from 9am to 6pm tomorrow.—Christina DeSmet
