Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by the Equipment, Joie, and Current/Elliott sample sale last night and found no line, no crowds, and a fully stocked selection of merchandise. Out of all three brands, To start, there's still plenty of Current/Elliott denim available, with racks upon racks of jeans taking up more than half the room, priced at $40 (or $41 for sample jeans). Styles range from skinny to straight leg to boot-cut, and there's an array of colors and prints to choose from.

Update, 12/20: Take an aadditional 25% off original sample sale prices.

In addition to the jeans, you can also snag a cropped Current/Elliott denim vest, cotton spring jackets and parkas, or menswear-style button downs. The vests are $30, the jackets are $45, and the tops are $40. Sample tops are $30, and tank top are only $20.

A small but sturdy selection of black leather skirts, several pairs of leather pants, and leather camisoles, tees, and dresses also remain. (Note that some dresses have light damage.) At present, all leather is priced at $150. Size-wise, everything looks to be a small, but they're still restocking clothes and updating sizes over the next few days.

To recap the Equipment prices, silk tops are $50, quite a few racks of shorts are $30, and floral print dresses are $75. Individual outerwear pieces, mostly fall/spring trenches for $65 each, dot the racks. Overall, the selection is fairly small and appears to have sold out some throughout the past two days.

The Joie items run parallel to the Equipment racks, and in some cases, are mixed in together. The most expensive are the $150 chunky, caramel colored fur vests. Jackets are $60, tees and crocheted tank tops, which are still in abundance, are only $20, and skirts are $30. A comparable selection of pants and jeans are $35, and these include a nice selection of slim and structured current pieces. Stop by the back of the store for Soft Joie merchandise: maxi dresses are $35, super soft tees in solid colors are $25, and comfy and bright rompers are $30.

Unfortunately, all accessories are sold out and will not be restocked. Joie handbags were initially available for $50, but are now gone. Each price list does reference "miscellaneous" items by the respective designer, but it still remains unclear as to what makes up that category. Perhaps some surprise accessory items will be pulled over the next few days.

As reported earlier, markdowns can be expected toward the end of the sale, and a communal fitting room is available. Check out the pictures for more detail.—Marina Charny
