Michael Bastian opened a pop-up shop at the SuperPier this week with the help of the BOFFO Building Fashion project. For the shop, Bastian teamed up with the Bittertang design farm (nope, not a typo—farm) to create a series of experiences that'll take you out of the city and into a hidden fashion cove.
The first thing you see and smell upon walking up to the space is a giant 20-foot tall pile of hay. Once you find the door, you'll be greeted with a bedroom covered in melted beeswax complete with a fireplace and some interesting beds. If you're starting to feel creeped out, that's the point.
The inside is fashioned after Bastian's fall 2013 line, and draws inspiration from American Gothic styles, Andrew Wyeth paintings, and red-wing blackbirds. The Bitterang team created the space out of shipping container and used 200 pounds of beeswax to coat the walls.
Behind the bedroom is an opening covered in black feathers that leads to a dark shopping space with spindle shelving, geometric accents, and a fitting room lined with red and orange tinted mirrors. The pop-up is stocked with pieces from the fall line and even a few one-of-a-kind items straight from the runway.
Almost everything in the shop is for sale including a shoe collaboration with Stubbs & Wootton and an accessories collaboration with G. Frost (that's the Lulu Frost line for men). Prices range from $120 to $1,375, and it's credit card only.
The pop-up will remain open through the November 21, from 12pm to 7pm Monday through Saturday, and from 12pm to 6pm on Sunday. There are special events happening through the stores run with the dates and details being announced on the BOFFO site.—Mickey Sery
