From Warm and Fuzzy to German Minimalism at Project No. 8

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Introducing What's In Store, a new Racked feature where we fill you in on what's in stock at the city's best stores right this second.

Doused in natural light, menswear shop Project No. 8 is the kind of small place that takes hours to go through. Each object—leather dopp kits and knit pigeons among the offerings—requires three-dimensional discovery: pick it up, turn it over, pause to consider.

Apparel is largely from Northern Europeon designers with "van" wedged somewhere in their name (or at least that's the case with Walter Van Beirendonck and Dries Van Noten) yeilding an apparel selection that loaded with special, but quiet, details. On a recent rainy morning we stopped by to discover a range of remarkable outerwear, sequined trompe l'oeil watch bracelets, and leather goods designed for guys that girls should definitely, definitely borrow.
