We popped into the Gant sample sale this morning, and even though it's billed as a smaller sale, there are still a lot of goods in here. With deals up to 80% off, we're just not sure how much of it will last. When we left early this afternoon, there was still a line of 50 people waiting to get in. Ladies, the price lists have women items on there, but we only saw one women's item in the whole sale. However, we're told a small amount of women's pieces will be arriving today, as well as bags, three-pack socks, and small accessories.
There's an even mix of the brand's labels—Gant, Gant Rugger and Gant by Michael Bastian—at the sale. If you're looking for outerwear, its mostly mediums, but some of the cuts looked big, but at these prices they're worth a try on. Lightweight jackets are $100, long and heavyweight outerwear is $150 and the suedes and shearlings are going for $300. The quilted vests were getting picked over fast, and for $75, we can see why.
The sportcoats and blazers are $195, and most of those are 48s and 50s. Sweaters get a full size range, from small though extra extra large, and include lightweight cottons and heavy wool options for $50. If you need button-ups, there are sizes small through extra extra large in fitted and traditional cuts for $45. Polos are divided into short sleeves for $30 and long sleeves for $45. There are very few tees mixed in.
If you need pants, they have casual and dressier choices in sizes 29 through 38. We saw cotton chinos, heavy dungarees, wool slacks, cords, and even some fitted sweatpants. Jeans are separates into bins in sizes 30 to 38. There's one rack of shorts that were all white and very short length. Accessories are hanging and divided into bins; we saw gloves, hats, scarves, and ties all for $25. There's also a bin of $7 socks. Even though they were listed on the price sheet, we didn't see any shoes or home goods.
There's no fitting rooms, but mirrors are around to try on shirts and jackets. Both cash and credit are accepted. The sale runs through Sunday at 225 Fifth Avenue. See the dealfeed below for hours and more info.—Mickey Sery
