Welcome back to What's In Store, a Racked feature where we fill you in on what's in stock at the city's best stores right this second.
Mirador opened not long ago at the unlikely address of 1 Macdougal Alley—not to be confused with 1 Macdougal Street, which will land you a good 15 minutes out of the way as we painfully found out—in the heart of Greenwich Village. The store looks like it walked right out of Nolita and landed in the student-filled neighborhood by mistake, but with the Stumptown cafe as its neighbor, it all kind of makes sense.
Owner Aurora Lopez wound up with the storefront through a series of missteps. With a background in finance, she had planned to switch career gears by opening an art gallery. A trip to the Capsule trade show led her to purchasing vests from Japan's 35summers, which led to more wholesale orders and the realization that she needed a shop. A laundromat in her neighborhood burned down, and she called the for rent phone number—it was her own apartment's landlord. One thing lead to another and she opened on November 11th, timed with Mercury exiting retrograde ("I'm quite superstitious.")
Take a peek at the new store's opening inventory, which includes Won Hundred outerwear for guys and gals, Del Toro slippers, loads of Lizzie Fortunato, and even some paper goods from Terrapin Stationers.
