The Elie Tahari sample sale kicked off this morning at 9am at 260 Fifth Avenue. At last night's preview, which ended up opening to the public early, there was a ton of merchandise to sort through, including dresses, blouses, suits, sweaters and knits, skirts, pants, jackets, outerwear, shoes and handbags from different collections; T Tahari, Tahari, Elie Tahari, Elie Tahari petite, Elie Tahari for Nordstrom, and Elie Tahari Woman.

At first, you'll probably be overwhelmed by the substantial amount of clothing, but take a deep breath and spend an hour or two flipping through the racks. We thought that some of the wool coats, skirts, and leather pieces were worthy to be brought home, although there seemed to be less variety in smaller sizes.

All items are marked with the discounted prices and organized by style and sizes. Blazers, jackets, and day and evening dresses range from sizes 0 through 12. Knits, tops, and other dresses range from XS to XL. Most pieces have a label with sizes, but there are a few items with no labels—these would be some of the sample pieces tucked in with the overstock. Prices for women's samples start at $19-$29 for knits and tops, $49 for sweaters, $59 for skirts, and $99 for day dresses. There are a few small racks dedicated to denim ($59) and leather pants ($249), as well as leather jackets ($399).

A couple of pieces we saw currently still sold online are: the Angelica jacket (which retails for $598 but was $99), and the Vallory coat (which retails for $798 and was $199). We were told the Preston coat was available, but was immediately snatched up. It retailed for $2,198 and was $499 at the sale.

Other items spotted: Penelope skirts and Kelsa skirts, which are normally priced over $248 but are $59 at the sale. There are also Knitty knits in a variety of colors for just $19.

Over in the men's section, pants are $49 and leather jackets are $399. Sweaters are $69, and a small selection of suits in sizes European 36 through 42 are $249. Short sleeve shirts are $39, and short sleeve knits for $19. (Ties were also $19.)

We didn't see jewelry, however there are plenty of accessories starting at $9 for belts. Clutches are $79, small handbags are $139, and luxury (fur) handbags are $199. Cashmere hats are $29 and all scarves (including cashmere blends) are $39. In the shoe department, ballerina flats are $79, pumps are $99, boots are $129, and sandals are $79. A box of sample shoes is also available, but it was unclear last night about the pricing.

There's a dressing room in the back for women only. Cash and credit accepted, and there will be restocking and additional markdowns near end of sale. Hours are 9am to 7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9am to 8pm on Thursday, 9am to 7pm on Friday, and 10am to 7pm on Saturday.—Hsini
