The Derek Lam and 10 Crosby by Derek Lam sample sale is a great place to escape the gloomy weather today. First and foremost: shoes, bags and eyewear all priced for $100 or less. The shoes are predominately size 7, with a few size 8s sprinkled into the mix. All of the clothing is price-as-marked, and all of the Derek Lam collection pieces and 10 Crosby items are neatly divided.

10 Crosby clothing is reasonably priced, with the lowest prices starting at $65 for lightweight sweaters and shorts. Blouses, pants and skirts are $75, while heavy knit sweaters are $100. The highest price point of $125 for 10 Crosby dresses and jackets is still cheaper than the lowest price point for the Derek Lam collection, which starts at $150.

Derek Lam blouses, pants and skirts are $150, while dresses, jackets and heavy knit sweaters are $250. Those prices seem high, but the winter coats for $300 feel like a steal. If you know what you're looking for, you can spot pieces from the recent fall collection. There's a pair of silk crepe dress pants for $150, which are a great deal from the original retail price of $1,090. There is one rack full of beaded and embellished pants, skirts and dresses, and all are price as marked. We didn't see anything on this rack for under $450.

A lot of the merchandise looks like actual samples, so be sure to check the garments for any flaws. We spotted an ink stain on one blouse, a few pulled seams in some of the outerwear pieces, and a dress that was nearly torn in half. There's plenty of mirror space for trying on clothes, but no actual fittings rooms—and with male security guards wandering around, it didn't make for the most comfortable atmosphere to try on your finds.

From graphic espadrilles to patent leather color-block booties, the endless options in the shoe department made us wish for size 7 feet. Those of you lucky enough to fall into this size should be quick to snag your style, because for the most part, there is only one pair per style.

A table of colorful handbags and clutches is the perfect place to find a few gifts to give this holiday season, with leather bags going for $50 to $75 and canvas styles for only $25. Eyeglasses and sunglasses for $45 are available near the checkout counter, where it's hard to avoid trying on a pair before paying.

When we left the sale around 11:30 today there was no line, but we don't think it will stay that way for long. The sale ends at 6pm today, and runs from 10am to 6pm tomorrow and Sunday at 76 Mercer Street.—Christina DeSmet
