Womenswear boutique Otte has opened their fifth Manhattan outpost in Nolita. The shop assumes the address vacated by Poppy, which closed June of this year. Decor fits right in with the new neighborhood, with plenty of hanging terrariums and organic wood accents.
The merchandise, too, fits the neighborhood's relaxed-but-fashion-aware vibe. There is a heavier focus on the store's in-house line, Otte New York, which is complemented by brands including R13, Frame Denim, Nicholas, and Band of Outsiders. The store also aims to up the accessories ante, featuring a host of up-and-comers and a local badge of honor: they're the only Manhattan shop carrying Williamsburg jewelry boutique Catbird's line.
Come spring, even more of the Nolita store will be populated with the store's own line as it expands. Owner Kay Lee is now operating a showroom, opening Otte NY to wholesale (Shopbop has placed an order), as well as representing other lines.
Otte also has another New York City location planned: somewhere in Brooklyn. While the boutique isn't ready to confirm neighborhood specifics, gentle prodding makes it sound like it won't be Williamsburg, where the store actually got its start in 1999 (that branch closed in 2009). More information should be available ahead of the store's 2014 opening.
