Welcome to Ask an Expert, a series in which we ask pros in the beauty and fashion biz to give us a video tutorial on one of the many things they're great at.
Arranging an eclectic mix of flowers just so in a mason jar (while making them look beautiful, professional, and alive for more than three days) isn't a skill everyone possesses in spades. Fortunately, Flower Girl storeowner Denise Porcaro is a pro at turning ordinary leaves, grass, and blooms into something spectacular.
In the video above, she demonstrates how to turn a cheap bodega bouquet into a work of art that's perfect for an at-home dinner party. Bonus: she uses the leftovers to make a beautiful bedside arrangement.
Want more help? They also offers special classes at the Lower East Side store the second Tuesday of every month: October 8th is Hydrangeas, November 12th is Jewel Tones, and December 10th is Centerpieces. Single classes are $185, and a series of three is $455, with costs covering all flowers and supplies.
