And so it begins: the arms race to see which store can do the most business on Thanksgiving. WWD has heard from a source that Macy's Herald Square will open at 8pm on Thanksgiving, meaning "some workers will be required to come in earlier to get the store ready." This would be a record; last year, they opened at midnight on Black Friday.

According to the source, "Macy's is asking for volunteers among its staff to work on Thanksgiving, but if it doesn't get enough, those with less seniority will be tapped first to come into work." Whoever gets their feast cut short can blame Lord & Taylor; on Thanksgiving last year, the store opened at 10am and attracted shoppers who came out to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
