Explained: The Future of Freemans Sporting Club Barbershop

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There was some confusion over the summer on what was happening with F.S.C. Barber—a result of a split between owners Sam Buffa and Taavo Somer and a subsequent name change. But come January 1st, things will get more simple.

We were recently told that the split was amicable: Buffa left to start Fellow Barber, which has a focus on apothecary and outposts in the West Village, Williamsburg, and Soho. Per the agreement, F.S.C. Barber on Rivington Street became Barbershop.

However, at the start of the new year it'll change to Freemans Sporting Club Barbershop, which should make life a lot easier for everyone involved. Check out the site for now, or call 212-673-3209 to book an appointment.
