J.Mendel has moved from 723 Madison Avenue to a space double the size at 787 Madison Avenue. Among the improvements in the new, larger space is a serious upgrade in the dressing-and-undressing department. Designer Gilles Mendel told WWD that at the old store, "We didn't even have conceived fitting rooms. I was selling evening gowns and women would undress in the mezzanine." (The new store has three fitting rooms.)

The designer adds that in addition to fur and ready-to-wear, which were both available at the old digs, the new store has a dedicated space for bridal and stocks accessories, including bags. Among the bag offerings is a limited edition Madison Moonlight Persian lamb minaudière. It costs $3,200 and there are only 18 out there, representative of the number of years spent at the old address.
