Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Ideally you need an extra set of hands, a surplus of time in the morning, and an improbable level of patience. In the video above, Drybar East Coast Lead Master Stylist Alexandria Ketcheson offers a few tips for how to get as close as possible to the real deal—the salon's signature "Straight Up" style—at home. Taming fly aways? Reaching the back of your head? It's all in there, as modeled by Racked intern Esther Levy-Chehebar.
