Leather, Though Pricey, Is the Main Draw at the Helmut Lang Sale

As soon as the Helmut Lang sample sale in Soho opened to the public at 10am this morning, all shoppers waiting outside were let in and permitted to fill their arms with as much merchandise—marked up to 60% off—as they could carry. The first items to fly off the racks? Why, leather jackets for $475, of course.

In fact, most of the items are still priced pretty high despite the markdowns. Fur jackets are $595, leather dresses and skirts are $345, leather leggings are $295, outerwear is $275, blazers are $235, special dresses are $185, knits and pants are $125, and basic dresses and tops are $95. Skirts, shorts, denim, and leggings are $85, while jersey dresses are $65, tees are $55, and jersey skirts are $55.

Upon entering, the right wall of the room is dedicated to outerwear. Here, a metallic leather jacket is $475 and a light puffer coat is $275. As of this morning, small sizes were hard to find.

Denim and leggings are located in the back of the room. A gold-dusted pair of jeans costs $85, and is available in multiple sizes. While the brand's leather leggings have a cult following, they were also still well-stocked. An embossed pair in plum now costs $295, down from $990 retail.

Dresses are also not to be missed, and they're at the left side of the store in the front. A wine-hued draped dress is a reasonable $95, while a structured gray dress with white panels is $185. In this area, you'll also find a red $55 asymmetrical jersey skirt.

As far as accessories go, medium-sized bags are $295, boots are $245, scarves are $195, small bags are $95, and other items are $35. Fire red and orange splattered boots—you know, those Game of Thrones ones—are right near the dressing rooms. Assorted bags are thrown in boxes toward the middle of the room, and for those with that knack for digging, $55 Cut & Sew tees are also contained in bins—this time near the front.

One last thing. You might want to leave ample time for the dressing room and checkout process, as both had considerable lines this morning. Also, get there as soon as possible. While staffers say they will be restocking some styles, there are not tons of merchandise to do so. At checkout, you'll also be treated to some specials: Purchases of $300 and over will receive a complimentary tee or tank, and purchases of $500 and over will receive two. Also, get an extra 10% off by following the instructions here. The sale is open until 8pm tonight, and ends on Sunday; see the dealfeed below for more details.
