Today, the Post has published one doozy of a rumor: that the Barneys Co-op in Chelsea might be leaving 18th Street. According to the article, "Barneys New York may be leaving downtown for the second time—the original Barneys at West 17th Street and Seventh Avenue closed in 1997. Management at the 18th Street Chelsea Co-op has been told that it may close late next month."
However, the following line explains that "the swanky retailer's PR staff is denying any move is afoot," meaning that it's still 100% unconfirmed. If it is true, two big questions arise. The first is where the store might relocate to, if it relocates at all. (The article is unclear whether or not the company would scout out another location.) Second, this leaves things a little unclear for the next Warehouse Sale, which would normally begin in about a month.
