The Bliss "Meditation Manicure" Was Inspired By a Self-Help Guru

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Did you know that Bliss Spa has a book club? The new feature, called Paging Happiness, launched late last year with Gretchen Rubin's The Happiness Project. Now the spa chain has announced Gabrielle Bernstein's May Cause Miracles as its January pick.

Bernstein is an Oprah favorite who fits in with Bliss' attitude of cute, fun female empowerment. And they're nailing it (pun intended) on the synergy front, too: For the whole month of January, Bliss spas in select cities (including the flagship here on Lexington Avenue) will feature a 30-minute, $25 "meditation manicure" cooked up by Ms. Bernstein herself. What, you may ask, is a meditation manicure? Good question.

Well, that's certainly easier than trying to do downward facing dog with wet nails.
