As part of a series of expansions and additions within the Shops at Columbus Circle, Hugo Boss is growing to add a third level to their space within the shopping center. This marks a first for the Shops, as no other retailer's space reaches beyond two floors. The added square footage comes from a relocated Sephora store.
Not only is this big news for the landscape of the Shops, it's also a statement on Hugo Boss' retail presence. The German brand previously occupied a palace of a flagship on Fifth Avenue, but sold the lease to Giorgio Armani, preferring to maintain smaller shops in Soho, the Meatpacking District and Columbus Circle. What was originally seen as a defeated flagship closing seems to be paying off with the expansion of the Columbus Circle location. As the neighborhood becomes more of a shopping destination with the addition of a seven-story Nordstrom flagship, perhaps more big brands will move their midtown flagships west.
