In addition to announcing the closure of the Chelsea Co-op and the hunt for a new downtown flagship yesterday, Barneys has also just released the dates of the next Warehouse Sale. Mizhattan reports that it'll begin on Valentine's Day and run through February 24th.
As of now, a few things remain unclear. First, whether or not the sale will take place online again (probably); and second, whether or not this sale will be the last. Yesterday's WWD article made it clear that the Chelsea closure had nothing to do with the performance of the store, and reported that the building's landlord was planning a massive overhaul of the entire space that's expected to take a year to complete.
That being said, it's possible that this could be the last warehouse sale—or at least the last at the Chelsea location. Whether or not Barneys plans to find an alternative spot for the sale remains yet to be seen. However, relocating such a large amount of discounted merchandise to another space seems like a daunting task for a company that's been working overtime to overhaul its luxury image.
Given last year's test run, it seems pretty plausible that the sale might remain online-only, especially if Barneys amps up its transfers to the outlet stores. For now, it looks like we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Update: Barneys just let us know that this Warehouse Sale will not be the last. After the February sale, it will move to another location a block away for August/September.
