New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Hesta Prynn (whose real name is Julie Potash) is a NYC-based DJ who has played internationally with everyone from Jay-Z to 30 Seconds to Mars to Gym Class Heroes to Kelis. She was also the face of a recent collection by Daryl K and has been covered by Rolling Stone, Billboard and Vanity Fair, to name a few. Known for her fiery locks, here she tells us the place (and the man) she trusts whole-heartedly to tame her mane in Flatiron.
When your hair color is your signature accessory, you must go to the right person. James Lyons at the Jeff Chastain Parlour is a true artist and my savior. This salon is hidden on the fifth floor of an office building on 17th Street, and the elevator opens into an eclectic and sophisticated space decorated with vintage suits of armor, Edison bulbs, and lots of plants. James, Jeff and I discuss reality TV while I get my color done and I never want to leave. I've got a standing appointment and every time I go, there are more and more models there... word must be getting out!
