At the preview of Fivestory's off-site sale at the Blakely Hotel this morning, the lights were dim, the staff was warm, and designer clothing was strategically displayed on mahogany furniture throughout. The sale, which officially opened to the public at 12pm, is being held in the penthouse apartment of boutique hotel just a short walk away from the Theater District.
Just past the elevator, two separate rooms hold brands like Balmain, Comme Des Garçons, and Rochas at up to 80% off. Make a right for women's apparel, accessories, children's, and men's knits. Steer left for women's shoes, men's apparel, shoes, and accessories.
In the women's-dominated area, racks are divided by size and then each rack is further organized by clothing type. Prepare to browse only one rack of clothing per size. Items are marked with either a red sticker indicating 60% off or with a blue one for 80% off.
Considering the steep discounts, the normally sky-high prices are steals. Balmain tees for $294(was $735), like this one in Wednesday's post, are on hand as promised. Keep your eyes peeled for a backless knit Chalayan dress for $160 (was $400), a BLK DNM shearling for $758 (was $1895), and a powder blue Preen turtleneck dress for $186 (was $465).
In addition, an emerald Chalayan draped top is $314 (was $785), a Versus by Versace short-sleeved paisley dress is $410 (was $1025), and a mint green Lyn Devon dress worn by Michelle Obama is a low $319, down from $1595. (The First Lady is a bit of a trend at Fivestory sales; we found a Preen dress she wore at the last one.)
Women's knits, accessories, and jewelry are showcased on the room's middle and side tables. A Dannijo bib that was originally $520 is now $208 and Mawi drop earrings that were originally $261 are now only $104.40. The children's rack includes outerwear, dresses, and even snowsuits. However, nothing is more aww-inducing than a girl's Chloé coat for $192 (originally $480).
Next, make your way into the room designated for women's shoes and men's everything. The first item that will catch your attention will certainly be a pair of Anthony Vaccarello pointy-toe pumps for $300 (were $750). They were described by one salesperson as the "shoe of the season," so you'll want to pray they have these in your size. Also, don't miss the Nina Ricci booties for $544 (were $1360), the Rochas tassel pumps for $250 (were $625), and Del Toro lip emblazoned shoe for $146 (originally $365).
Men will find clothing tucked in every crevice of the room. Swimsuits are stacked inside a set of drawers, accessories are presented on a night table, loungewear is folded on a couch, and ties hang down from a lamp. Some highlights include a Visvim button-down for $177.20 (was $443), a Sacai bomber for $540 (was $1350), and a Comme Des Garçons camel pea coat for $597.20 (was $1493). Two styles of a Comme Des Garçons camouflage lined jacket are now $168 (were $840)—a no-brainer.
In terms of the rest, Orlebar Brown swim trunks are now only $53 (were $265), a Richard James gray tie is $22 (was $110), and Missoni x Converse sneakers are $80 (were $200). Girls, it's okay to be jealous.
Since the sale is in a hotel suite, the bathrooms in each of the rooms are being used as the dressing rooms. Get creative here: use the shower curtain pole to hang your selections, the top of the bathtub to place your purse, and hold onto the edge of the sink for support. There is a full-length mirror on the back of the door, which you'll use even if you just want to try on a pair of shoes, as there are no mirrors any closer.
The sale runs until 6pm tonight, from 10am—7pm on Saturday and Sunday, and from 9am—6pm on Monday through Thursday. Check the dealfeed for more details.
