One of the side effects of Fashion's Night Out is that it's opened Fashion Week up to all sorts of New York retail institutions that otherwise wouldn't have much to do with the world of Vogue. Today at noon, for example, Williamsburg's Artists & Fleas kicks off a one-week bazaar inside the Chelsea Market. Not only is there an FNO component on Thursday night, but the market is expressly pegged to NYFW.
Co-founder Ronen Gilmer says he sees the event as a way to push Brooklyn as a brand—to bring some of the flea's favorite designers to a "bigger, badder and fashion-savvier stage," as the press release puts it. To that end, he and the event's other organizers have rounded up 30 vendors selling vintage, jewelry, and other merchandise. (Check out some of the goods in the slideshow above.)
The market runs through September 9 in the space usually reserved for sample sales. There will be plenty of DJs throughout the week, plus an in-store record pop-up from former Greenpoint music hub Eat Records. And if you miss it, don't worry: Artists & Fleas returns to the Chelsea Market corner space beneath the High Line on September 19th, where it will stay through the holidays.
