Welcome to Shops Illustrated, a Racked feature in which artist Jennifer Hoyden sketches New York City stores. For each entry, she'll draw a street view, an interior look, and some items currently hanging on the racks.
Like bees drawn to honey, shoppers in the West Village keep the Sucre boutique humming. Instead of sweet calories, the danger of the petite boutique lies in Candace Mohr, one of the co-owners, a retail pro who personally assists visitors. She is petite and friendly, and you'll never know what hit you.
Mohr knows her customers by name, she knows their careers, she knows their taste and their needs. She keeps the shop stocked with pieces from Alexander Wang, Mara Hoffman, Primary and the like, and she knows just which sculptural necklace or cuff from K/LLER, Bliss Lau, or Saya Hibino they will want to pair them with. Plus she supports new designers her customers don't yet know they are about to love.
The final nail on the proverbial coffin for your savings account? The other owner is eyewear designer Selima Salaun, so the store is armed to the teeth with shades.
