Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Dolce & Gabbana sample sale kicked off yesterday at the Metropolitan Pavilion, and Mizhattan stopped by to scope out the scene. Her report can be pretty much summed up as follows: "This year's Dolce & Gabbana sample sale had more merchandise than ever before. I found many amazing pieces reasonably priced. In addition, most merchandise looked to be in excellent condition."

As for the pricing, all clothing and accessories from the 2012 collection are 60% off. The older the merchandise, the steeper the discounts: 2011 items are 70% off, 2010 is 80% off, and anything from 2009 or prior is 90% 0ff. Archival pieces, on the other hand, are 60% off.

Over in the shoe section, she spotted sizes ranging from 35 to 40, which included a pair of fuchsia patent pumps for $47.50 and leopard print sandals for $127.50. If it's a belt your after, you'll be pleased to know that there are seven racks of them, in leather and chain. And for the handbags, Mizhattan saw a lot of floral canvas totes from the 2011 D&G garden-inspired collection. If that's not your cup of tea, she also stumbled upon a patchwork leather bowling tote ($225), a mimi straw shoulder bag ($192.50), and the Miss Sicily handbag in white crochet.

Since you wouldn't expect anything less from Dolce & Gabbana, she describes the ready-to-wear racks as including "vibrant colors, wild patterns, va-va-voom corsets, fit-and-flare dresses, and the label's signature hourglass sheaths & leopard prints." Examples are a gold sequined dress for $399.50 (was $3,995), a silk crepe leopard skirt for $106.50 (was $355), and a fuchsia jacket for $299.50 (was $2,995).

And now, for the men and children: Mizhattan adds that there's plenty of menswear at the sale, from suits to denim to six racks of shoes. (In fact, menswear seems to take up about half the sale.) For the mini Dolce & Gabbana fan in your life, there are four racks of childrenswear and shoes. The sale runs through Sunday until 5pm; for additional info, head to the dealfeed.
