Where This High-End Showroom Employee Shops for Sunglasses

New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

For the past five years, Lindsay Carr has been the account director at the Albright Fashion Library, a high-end designer showroom that rents clothing and accessories to stylists, costume designers, editors, celebrities, and more. We asked Lindsay to tell us her favorite under-the-radar shopping gem, and she led us to YakBlak, a sunglass vendor at the Dekalb Market. Unfortunately, the market is leaving Brooklyn at the end of this month, so after that, you'll have to keep tabs of them via their website.

I've personally always loved unique and oversized sunglasses, but they're not always easy to find, especially when you don't want to spend money on the high-end designer ones. I visited the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn a few years back when it first opened and discovered YakBlak. YakBlak provides refurbished vintage sunglasses at a fraction of the cost of designer eyewear. They sell both men's and women's in a large variety of shapes and sizes (in case you're not into the kind that take up your whole face).
The owners and staff are also super nice and very helpful in your decision of picking out the right pair—or in my case, pairs. Recently, my favorite pair that I tend wear every day had a scratch on one of the lenses. I brought them back to the shop and they only charged me $30 for the replacement, and they did it in under a week. They treat their customers really well and are very passionate about the maintenance of the products they sell. They offer a lot of services for their products, in addition to fixing lenses, so your sunnies will be with you forever.
