Historically, Nolita's trendier businesses haven't had the greatest relationship with the San Gennaro Festival, but this year, a few of them are getting involved with contributions of their own. Mulberry Street salon Fox & Boy is teaming up with Two Trees, The New Museum, and the Monsignor of Old St. Patrick's Cathedral to offer some quieter, calmer, less sausage-driven activities throughout the fair, which kicked off yesterday and lasts until Sunday, September 23.
The New Museum will be holding a reading nook on the corner of Prince and Mulberry, for example, while Fox & Boy is offering complimentary braids and free hair chalk. What's hair chalk? It's sort of like sidewalk chalk, only you wet it and use it as temporary dye—perfect for chic Nolita ladies and fair-going teenagers alike. Try it yourself in front of the salon (280 Mulberry Street) every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the fair, starting at 3:30pm.
