New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Ted Gushue is always looking dapper. As the managing editor of GrandLifeHotels.com, Gushue also scribes for SCENE Magazine, and he's an occasional contributor to the New York Observer. And when it comes to working in the world of events and hospitality (or writing about it, at least), Ted isn't afraid to try his hand at DJing. He recently filled us in on his favorite spot to find suits: a consignment shop on East 82nd Street.
This place literally defines destination shopping. In a city that's besieged with an endless stream of "high end" consignment shops that offer little discount from retail, Designer & Gentleman's Resale stands out. It's a bit of a hike, but it's only a few blocks north of J.G. Mellon's, and right in the sweetspot when it comes to incredible tailoring at incredible prices. Brioni suits? Check. Kiton blazers? Yup. You name it, they've got it. Their sister store, Designer Resale, is right next door, so to quote my buddy John Munson, who turned me on to the spot, "Bring your girl, grab a burger, and re-do your wardrobes."
