Unless you've been under a retail rock for the past few months, you know luxury boutique Fivestory is the latest darling of the Upper East Side. Now, Fivestory has kicked it up a notch with its first-ever off-site sale, currently underway in a penthouse suite at the Blakely Hotel. There, you can score 60% to 75% off of its unique blend of lesser-known designer apparel and shoes for men and women, not to mention accessories and jewelry.

Fivestory really seems to know a thing or two about ambiance, and the shoppers who arrived yesterday afternoon in a steady flow seemed to be loving it. Once inside the intimate penthouse, you can't help but feel like you're in a VIP friend's artfully curated closet. You'll be greeted by helpful and thoughtful staffers, racks of dresses, tables of folded knits, stacks of shoe boxes, and a table of sparkly baubles. Spring and summer items are 60% below retail, while fall items are 75% off.

Pricing is still high by pretty much anyone's standards. But it's significantly lower than your usual boutique end-of-season sale, and the selection is tasteful and covetable. Generally, everything is marked with its original retail price. Inquire with the staffers about which of the two discount schemes apply; they'll help you calculate the final price.

Expect a similar assortment to what you'd find at Fivestory's retail boutique: Preen, Edie Parker, Carven, Rodebjer, Jasmin Shokorion, and Lyn Devon. We spotted lots of brands that we're familiar with alongside new-to-us gems.

We loved a Preen pixel dress (very similar to one worn by Michelle Obama recently) for $434. A poofy, architectural mini-dress by Carven and a neon brocade shift dress were both marked down to $264. A Rodebjer silk tank dress was $70 and a Jasmin Shokrion fluid top was marked down to $57.50.

Among the shoes and accessories, you'll spot silk scarves, on-trend sparkly and metallic shoes, and statement necklaces with the same discount scheme. There's even a few finds for the guys—we loved the velvet smoking slippers and rugged canvas and leather overnight bags. If you're looking for something specific, just ask. There's more sizes and assortment in the back and the staffers were happy to accommodate shoppers' requests.

Of course, this sale had the most pleasant changing room experience ever. You get the penthouse suite bathroom all to yourself—complete with lots of mirrors and staffers are on hand to dispense advice, assist with sizing, and make tailoring suggestions.

The sale continues at the Blakely Hotel (136 West 55 Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues) through Sunday, August 12. Once you arrive, take the elevator to the PH floor and take a right. Weekday hours are 10am to 6pm, and weekend hours are 12pm to 6pm. — Kiran
