As our search for New York City's hottest trainer speeds up, we're moving to two profiles a day. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite. Let the games begin!
Joey Gonzalez is our third contestant from Barry's Bootcamp, which leads us to believe they're breeding good-looking trainers by slipping something in the water cooler. Joey's been in the fitness game for eight years, despite claims that he was the least athletic of his siblings as a child. Now, his favorite thing to teach is Barry's Full Body Bootcamp. He says, "Not only are the moves functional and beneficial, but they tend to leave people exhausted by the end with a higher calorie burn."
Another thing the trainers at Barry's have in common is pleasantly-surprising fitness advice. Joey explains that if you're looking to get ripped, the best thing to do is eat late at night. "When you sleep, you're on a fast. During that fast, your body is forced to turn to your own muscle protein into fuel, cannibalizing your muscles," he explains. "The longer you go before sleep without eating, the more your muscle will be lost. I recommend ending your day with a slow-digesting protein, like casein protein shakes or cottage cheese."
