While checking out the new MM6 store this week, The Shophound noticed something awry at Brooks Brother's Black Fleece store on Bleecker Street. Mainly, that it appears to be under construction from the inside-out. He writes:
We discovered the space to be under some kind of elaborate construction that included building some kind of protective plywood around the interior of the store. We can't figure out what's going on here. When we peered through the side window, we could see that the store's furnishings were still in place, albeit covered in protective materials, so it doesn't look like the store is shutting down or moving.
A remodel seems the most likely of scenarios, particularly because shuttering this Black Fleece location would mean that the only other in existence would be in San Francisco. As the Shophound points out, however, a relocation wouldn't be out of the question either: After all, the nearby Rugby store is now kaput.
Update: Mystery solved. According to the Black Fleece Facebook, the store will reopen on Saturday, August 18th, after it undergoes a landmark preservation restoration on the facade.
