At the Kleinfeld Sale, Brides Are Asked to Take a Number

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Kleinfeld's annual sale is running all afternoon from 3pm to 7pm. We dropped by earlier to scope out the line and discovered that there isn't one. Instead, the store is directing brides-to-be to collect a number from the front desk and return when doors open at 3pm.

The number sheet lays out a list of rules and policies. The number you receive on the sheet represents your spot in line. You are asked to bring only one friend or assistant with you in a dressing room, along with only three dresses. Also, you will be sharing a dressing room with another bride-to-be, so prepare to share the limelight (and mirror). Additionally, a Kleinfeld consultant will be assisting two brides at a time. And remember, all sales are final—no refunds and no exchanges. Happy hunting, future brides!—Tanya Loss
