New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Brian Boye has been the fashion and grooming director for Men's Health for the past 12 years. Although he shops for a living, he hates to shop for himself. If he's forced to spend the day shopping, he'd much rather buy things for others—especially at LAFCO, his favorite store in Nolita.
Theoretically, I don't need to set foot into a store to buy beauty and home-related gifts. I've got a closet full of the best fragrances, candles and skin care products at my office. But I love to shop at LAFCO, where Jon Bresler and Vincent LaRouche have curated a tightly edited selection of luxe home and beauty products from a few niche Italian brands, plus their own line of soaps, candles and diffusers. (If you go, ask for Segen. He knows everything and will cheerfully help with suggestions.)
Over the years I've discovered new finds that you can't find anywhere else in NYC. My new favorite: Eau d'Italie fragrances and bath products are sold here. Their unisex Jardin du Poete eau de toilette is a striking mix of basil, citrus, pink pepper and vetiver. It's been a hit with everyone I've given it to as a gift. LAFCO's own line of candles themed by rooms of the house are, to me, the best in the world: beautiful scents and glass containers, and well-priced. They also just launched new soaps and diffusers that I plan on investing heavily in for the holidays.· LAFCO [Official Site]
