Depending on who you ask, Walmart might be looking to open a store in Willets West, the upcoming retail complex located near Citi Field in Queens. Two unnamed elected officials told the New York Daily News that Walmart is considering and even "courting" the location, to which Walmart's spokesperson responded: "We don't have any announced projects in the city, but continue to evaluate opportunities all across the five boroughs."
The Willets Point sight is a collaboration between Related Companies and Sterling Equities, and a spokesperson for the partnership explained to the paper that "large scale stores are not 'anticipated' for the enclosed Willets West complex." (And it's doubtful that Walmart will try their hand at a lofty outdoor market.) Another source "close to Related" denied the rumor altogether, so as of now, consider it all very up in the air.
