New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Melissa Liebling-Goldberg is the editorial director of women's at Gilt.com, where she oversees Gilt Insider and works closely with the entire women's team on things like content integration and editorializing the sales experience. The former style director for both PeopleStyleWatch.com and People.com, she's also worked places like the New York Post, Teen Vogue and New York magazine. She certainly knows a thing or two about women's shopping, but here's where she shops for men.
Tucked in a stretch of Atlantic Avenue where the air is filled with Middle Eastern spices is Module R, a treat of a store that specializes in all things modular—from tables and bookshelves to games and puzzles. This has fast become my go-to store for giving gifts to all the men in my life.
For my puzzle addict brother-in-law, a clock with puzzle pieces that can be rearranged into myriad configurations on the wall. For my 15-month-old nephew, it's mobiles and stacking toys from Sweden. And for my architect husband, I could basically blindfold myself and turn in a circle pointing and he'd like whatever I landed on.
The store isn't small and it's filled floor to ceiling (really, don't forget to look up) with unique items that would look as nice in your home as they would in a gift bag going to friends. Even better is its proximity to Colonie for a drink and snack post-shopping spree.· Module R [Official Site]
