GREENWICH VILLAGE—Another independent bookstore has just succumbed to the Kindle: Jeremiah's Vanishing New York delivers the bummer news that Partners & Crime on Greenwich Avenue is closing after 18 years in business. If you've never been inside, this is what you'll forever be missing come September: "One of the store's stocked shelves serves as a secret entrance to a back room where the shop hosts monthly performances of "old-time radio plays." HERALD SQUARE—Next summer, the city will lose three fast food restaurants and gain a lot of Crocs. Crain's reports that the Pizza Hut, Tad's Broiled Steaks, and Tim Horton's on West 34th Street are all closing to make room for a Croc's store, where the sweet smell of plastic footwear will probably be mixed with the lingering scent of cheap eats.
