New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Here, she shares her favorite little spot for designer shoes on Crosby Street.
I work down in Soho and always pass AvaMaria on Crosby Street on my way home. It's this adorable, unassuming storefront—and inside are a few racks of carefully curated pieces by emerging local designers. The clothes are cute, but the real reason to go is the shoes. Along the whole right side of the little store are shelves of high-end designer shoes: Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Nicholas Kirkwood, Brian Atwood, Proenza Schouler, Manolo Blahnik, Stella McCartney and more for deep, deep discounts. I'm talking 50% to 70% off. They're able to keep prices down because most are previous season shoes. Kind of brilliant and always feels like you're shopping in your friend's closet.
