Yesterday, Ralph Lauren employee Erica Wang was arrested at the Madison Avenue flagship after allegedly stealing close to $6,000 worth of merchandise that she had not-so-stealthily hid in a storage room. As it turns out, Wang began working at the store in January, and since then, she's (also allegedly) stolen roughly $46,000 worth of other merchandise, bringing the grand theft total to around $52,000.
According to the Post, this wasn't her first heist. The article explains that back in 2004, Wang was arrested after stealing from Bergdorf Goodman, though nobody knew it at the time because the court case was sealed. The Post also mentions that Wang was supposed to marry celebrity chef Todd English in 2009, but he broke it off the day of the wedding. That being said, perhaps her lawyers will attempt to blame the whole thing on retail therapy gone very awry.
