Welcome to Racked NY's search for New York City's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile sixteen smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. (Not only do they look hot in spandex, but if you take their classes, you might someday look nearly as good.) Then, once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite. Let the games begin!Photos by Driely S
Contestant number five is Matt Maggiacomo of Barry's Bootcamp. Though he's only been a trainer for roughly two years, Matt has already developed a strong following, particularly amongst young moms and Chelsea men. He explains that with his training, "I aim to give my clients the positive motivation (and critiques) of a gay best friend with the regimented no-nonsense nature of a drill sergeant. But it doesn't mean you can't hug me afterwards!"
One of his favorite classes to teach at Barry's is Hard Core Thursdays, where he focuses on strength, cardio, and of course, abs. Speaking of abs, back in his modeling days Matt appeared on a handful of romance novel covers, though he'll never reveal which ones. One thing he will share, though, is this fitness tip: "It's all about motivation. Enrolling in a group fitness class, finding a workout buddy, or hiring a trainer is the best way to achieve your goals. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody."
