Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Shops Illustrated, a Racked feature in which artist Jennifer Hoyden sketches New York City stores. For each entry, she'll draw a street view, an interior look, and some items currently hanging on the racks.

Pixie Market on Stanton Street is stocked with brands you may have never heard of but clothing you've likely admired, since it's a bit of a go-to for independent-minded, adventurous fashion-lovers. And we admire them.

With the casual air of a rummage sale, the store carries a mix of lesser-knowns and stalwarts of reasonably-priced fashion (Daydream Nation, Cheap Monday, House of Balfour), all directed at trend-setters, wherever they may be. Their international shipping policy keeps customers happy around the globe, but New Yorkers can pop into their only store in the whole wide world for a hands-on experience.
