Welcome to Racked NY's search for New York City's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile sixteen smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. (Not only do they look hot in spandex, but if you take their classes, you might someday look nearly as good.) Then, once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite. Let the games begin!Photos by Caitlin Mitchell
Contestant number two is Nick Vargas of Carroll Gardens gym Body Elite. Believe it or not, he says he's a bit of a geek. He was on the math team in high school, graduated college with a degree in Civil Engineering, and spent a while working as a project manager at a construction management company before switching gears.
"I was working long hours, living on sugar and coffee, and was very unhappy with my life at the time," he explains, "so I decided to make a change and pursue personal training and nutrition coaching." It paid off: "Work to me now is absolutely amazing. I'm truly doing what I love and helping others at the same time."
Nick has been a trainer and instructor for about a year and a half now. He says his favorite class to teach is kettlebells because the people are so committed. His most unusual gym tip: "I make sure my clients realize the importance of carbohydrates," because carbs are so important for energy. That's right, folks: He's a handsome trainer who thinks it's important to eat a bowl of pasta now and then. Swoon.
