Rugby's West Village Women's Store Closed Overnight

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Ralph Lauren's younger, trendier label Rugby has closed its West Village women's store at 380 Bleecker Street. A visit this morning revealed an empty space with a "for rent" sign in the window. At the men's store at 390 Bleecker, an employee said the women's location closed due to "issues with the landlord." He also told us that there are no plans to close the men's store, though if Ralph Lauren did close it, they would have to pry his "cold, dead hands off of it."

Rugby's Greenwich Village location (99 University Place) is still open; we saw employees working on window displays earlier today. That store houses clothes for both genders, with an expanded range of women's options. You can also always find the collection online and through the iPhone app.—Kelly Marshall
